With Halloween less than a week away, the Marc Lopez Law Firm would like to share some practical, trick-or-treating safety tips from the American Red Cross:
- Map your candy-seeking routes. It’s harder for someone to get lost when adults and children are
all on the same page. - Young children should not be unaccompanied. A good rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t leave your child home alone, maybe don’t send them off into the night on an unsupervised adventure.
- Favor costumes that don’t obstruct vision. Masks are fun, but face paint shouldn’t interfere with your child’s eyesight. Unless you have a sweaty kid, in which case you’re probably in for a long night.
- Beware of dogs (and other animals). Many domesticated pets are sweethearts, but they all have small brains, and some of them are easily spooked.
- When it comes to a flashlight, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
- Finally, at the end of the night, don’t just turn your kids loose. Do the responsible thing and check their respective goodie bags for razor blades, poisoned apples, or surplus Butterfinger bars.
