With Halloween less than a week away, the Marc Lopez Law Firm would like to share some practical, trick-or-treating safety tips from the American Red Cross:

  1. Map your candy-seeking routes. It’s harder for someone to get lost when adults and children are all on the same page.
  2. Young children should not be unaccompanied. A good rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t leave your child home alone, maybe don’t send them off into the night on an unsupervised adventure.
  3. Favor costumes that don’t obstruct vision. Masks are fun, but face paint shouldn’t interfere with your child’s eyesight. Unless you have a sweaty kid, in which case you’re probably in for a long night.
  4. Beware of dogs (and other animals). Many domesticated pets are sweethearts, but they all have small brains, and some of them are easily spooked.
  5. When it comes to a flashlight, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
  6. Finally, at the end of the night, don’t just turn your kids loose. Do the responsible thing and check their respective goodie bags for razor blades, poisoned apples, or surplus Butterfinger bars.

Click this link to see what else the Red Cross advises for enjoying an October 31st that isn’t any scarier than it needs to be.
