As any experienced Indiana DUI lawyer will tell you, DUIs and CDLs don’t mix.

A person with a commercial driver’s license is held to a higher standard than other drivers because commercial driving is more inherently dangerous. A CDL is required to drive:

  • a commercial motor vehicle (or combination of vehicles) with a weight of more than 26,000 pounds;
  • a vehicle designed to transport at least 16 people; or
  • a vehicle that transports hazardous materials.

All CDL regulations are controlled by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
