Attorney Marc Lopez was fortunate to attend the 2015 National College of DUI Defense DUI seminar in Las Vegas. The three-day seminar included topics ranging from updates on the blood testing, breath testing, standardize field sobriety testing and national trends in trial practice. The faculty included some of the smartest individuals in the country, including Attorneys Joe St. Louis, Lenny Stamm and Andrew Mishlove.
The first day was spent on strategies to deal with possible judicial bias so that our DUI clients have the best possible chance of obtaining a not guilty verdict.  Recent national updates and suggested novel approaches for jury selection were presented, along with ways to curb prosecutorial misconduct.

Day two was spent and small breakout sessions. Attorney Marc Lopez attended sessions on dealing with attorney-client ethical obligations and the rising demand of social medial. Attorney Jo St. Louis, who was instrumental in the overhauling of Arizona’s chemical testing polices and procedures led sessions on attacking both blood and breath testing in DUI cases.

The third and final day focused on further small group breakout sessions where attorney Lopez attended advanced strategies and methods for attacking blood and breath evidence in DUI cases.  These advanced sessions focused on the science of how forensic labs determine alcohol content, specifically attacking the gas chromatography method for analyzing blood.  Attorney St. Louis’s recent litigation with the State of Arizona provided Attorney Lopez with invaluable insight and ideas.
Attorney Lopez is extremely grateful to his support staff, who have to work twice as hard when Attorney Marc Lopez is not in the office.  The local Indianapolis bar associations do a great job in keeping attorneys current on the law, but it is Attorney Lopez’s belief that participation in National Bar associations with speakers from across the the nation help in developing new and emerging issues in the defense of those accused of crimes, including DUIs.
