I’m Attorney Marc Lopez, and here’s what you need to know about Indiana fireworks laws as we head into Fourth of July weekend!

From now until Independence Day, people are allowed to light fireworks from 5:00 p.m. until two hours after sunset. It doesn’t matter what your local town says, and it doesn’t matter what your home owners association says—Indiana law specifically permits you to play with fireworks from 5:00 p.m. until two hours after sunset.

On July 4, well—it’s even bigger. You’re allowed to set off fireworks from 10:00 a.m. until midnight—no matter what. Again, it doesn’t matter if your neighbor is complaining or if your HOA hates you. If you’re waking up babies, the babies better deal, because Indiana has given its citizens the right to blow up fireworks from 10:00 a.m. until midnight on this nation’s birthday.

The following day, you need to scale it back a little, because on July 5, we go back to fireworks from 5:00 p.m. until two hours after sunset. In that time, you can blow all the fireworks you want. Just because your can, of course, doesn’t mean you should.

Look out for each other, don’t start any fires, and enjoy this Fourth of July!
