Attorney Naun Antonio Benitez had the pleasure of attending the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Conference: “Defending the Modern Drug Case.” Attorney Benitez learned a great deal of information at the conference.

On day 1, Attorney Benitez learned more in detail regarding Roadside detention of individuals and their 4th Amendment rights. Attorney Benitez was given a summary of new cases and developments in that field so he could better help his clients. The second topic on the first day dealt with crossing of a Narcotics Officer in a drug case. Many successful tips where used to attack their education and training; thus, helping defendants who have been accused of a drug crime.

There was valuable information on Day 2 and 3. First, attorney Benitez learned more in depth about GPS & cellphones and how GPS can be used to defend his clients. Furthermore, Attorney Benitez learned about how an ineffective Interpreter and/or translator during a stop or interview can lead to potentially dismissing the case. Interpreters and translators are vital when individuals accused of a crime do not speak English. Interpreters and translators are used to give individuals their rights or to translate vital details. An ineffective interpreter and translator can cause many problems to people accused of crimes. Lastly, Attorney Benitez learned more techniques on how to cross informants and cooperating witnesses. Sometimes the only witness against a defendant is an informant or cooperating witness. It is vital that an attorney is able to effectively cross these witnesses as it may make or break the case.

Attorney Benitez is grateful that he was able to attend the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Conference: “Defending the Modern Drug Case” and to be around so many great minds. He is eager to use the knowledge and skills learned with his clients in Indiana.
