Habitual Traffic Violators & Specialized Driving Privileges

If you’re found guilty of three majors in 10 years, the BMV will call you a Habitual Traffic Violator and suspend your license for 10 years.

Another way you can become HTV is to combine one major conviction with nine other traffic violations—including speeding—in a 10-year period. If you accumulate 10 traffic violations within 10 years and at least one of them is a major, auto-related offense, the BMV will call you a Habitual Traffic Violator and suspend your license for five years.

If the BMV declares you HTV, you should probably take them seriously. If you drive in spite of your suspension, you’ll be facing an additional Level 6 felony (maximum sentence: 2.5 years) if you’re stopped by the police.
