A DUI Doesn’t Mix with a CDL

In the State of Indiana, nobody has the right to drive. It’s a privilege, and if you make a big mistake—or enough little ones—that privilege can be taken away.

The same goes for a commercial driver’s license (CDL), only it’s considered an even greater privilege to drive a commercial vehicle for a living. This is at least partly to do with the greater responsibility associated with transporting people or driving specialized or oversized vehicles.

CDL regulations come directly from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so there’s no way to cut a deal with a local prosecutor regarding the penalty. You cannot do CDL work with a pending DUI charge.
